French Healthcare conference – World Expo 2020 Dubai – January 25-26, 2022
Structuring translational research to address the cardiometabolism diseases challenge: the IHU ICAN Foundation model
January 26 – 13:00 – 13:45 (Dubai time zone)
Cardiovascular, metabolic and nutrition related diseases are one of the major public health challenges and account for a significant part of the rise in non communicable diseases related death and morbidity. There is a now a firm consensus on the need to better address these pathologies by favouring an interdisciplinary approach. As such, the growing field of personalised medicine represents a major opportunity to tackle these health issues in a new, effective and financially sustainable manner.
IHU-ICAN : The Foundation for Innovation in Cardiometabolism and Nutrition (IHU ICAN) is an excellence translational research center, created in 2011 by the French government as part of the competitive program “Investments for the Future”, and is based on the premises of the leading University Hospital Pitié Salpêtrière in Paris . Our mission is to accelerate the translation of preclinical and clinical research findings directly to the care of patients suffering from cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The founding members of ICAN are Sorbonne University (SU), Paris University Hospital (AP-HP) and the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). The overall objective of ICAN is to prevent, predict, innovate and develop personalized medicine for the diagnostic, care and treatment of patients affected with cardiometabolic diseases. ICAN is one of the top institutes for cardiovascular metabolic and nutrition diseases in Europe, bringing together basic and clinical researcher teams. ICAN has developed cutting edge core-facilities for translational research notably for cardiometabolic tissue imaging, as well as multi-omics and clinical data integration.
