A look back at the SFR’s first French-Rioplatense Radiology Days

Following the success of its JFR 2023 (french radiology days), the Société française de Radiologie organized its first French-Rioplatense radiology days in Uruguay on November 2 and 3, in Colonia del Sacramento, in partnership with its local counterparts.

Uruguayan and French radiologists regularly visit each other to discuss their practices and collaborate on academic training in both countries. The two countries’ respective radiology societies have already signed a cooperation agreement. This led to the very first French-Rioplatense Radiology Days, sponsored by Guerbet, the French Embassy in Uruguay and the Uruguayan Presidency, further strengthened the close ties between French and South American scientists.

On November 2 and 3, this first edition – co-sponsored by the SFR, the Société de Radiologie de l’Uruguay, the Société Argentine de Radiologie and FAARDIT – welcomed over 90 attendees. As the culmination of this large cooperation in the radiology field, it was attended by experts from many Latin American countries, as far afield as Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, and by a delegation of four French radiologists, specializing in neuroradiology, musculoskeletal, pediatrics and women’s imaging. Guerbet and Olea Médical, members of French Healthcare Association, also took part in the event to represent French industry.

The 10 radiology experts also led a number of didactic scientific lectures and workshops, dealing with various clinical cases, all in a convivial atmosphere. For example, the Vice-President of the Argentine Society of Radiology, Dr. Claudia Cejas, gave a lecture on magnetic resonance neurography. Other topics covered during the sessions included medical management of the pancreas, artificial intelligence and endometriosis…

The trip was also an opportunity for the SFR to meet the heads of other Latin American radiology societies (Bolivia, Paraguay), as well as official French authorities abroad (French Consulate in Buenos Aires, French Embassy in Uruguay) and the Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health. They presented the actions carried out in cooperation with the national societies of Uruguay and Argentina, and the prospects for cooperation in the years ahead.

The organization of the 2024 French-Rioplatense days is already being discusses : they should take place in Argentina.
