International senology meetings : French Healthcare Association members from Strasbourg commit to breast cancer care worldwide

The 30th international senology meetings were held on October 3 and 4 in Strasbourg.

These 30th international senology meetings in Strasbourg took place at the European Parliament, in the presence of Julien Delpech, Ukraine referent for French Healthcare Association. Two members of the association were also partners in these meetings.

French Healthcare Association members’ commitment as a driving force behind international efforts to train senology operators

The Strasbourg cancer institute (ICANS) and Alara Group, both association members, were among the official partners of these meetings launched by Fabienne Keller (Member of the European Parliament) and Pr Samir Henni (General Manager of Strasbourg University Hospitals).

The event was also an opportunity for other institutional and academic partners, such as the Académie Nationale de Chirurgie (ANC), the Société Internationale de Sénologie (SIS), members of the Conseil National des Universités (CNU) and the Collège National des Gynécologues et des Obstétriciens Français, as well as FIGO, to get involved in operator training and discuss the place of senology as a surgical discipline in its own right.

On this occasion, ICANS‘ Chief of Surgery Pr. Carole Mathelin was announced as President of the National Surgery Academy for 2025. The Academy is currently exchanging views with numerous foreign representatives on the positioning of the sector and the exchange of international best practices in terms of breast cancer management.

European support for breast cancer treatment in Ukraine reiterated

In the presence of Julien Delpech, French Healthcare Association’s Ukraine referent, the meetings were also an opportunity to mark the European Parliament’s support for senology players in Ukraine.
The response to Ukrainian needs in the fight against breast cancer is marked by three major initiatives:

  • The forthcoming delivery of 25 latest-generation mammography machines by GE Healthcare, a partner of the association, for early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
  • The training of Ukrainian specialists for the university diploma in breast diseases at Strasbourg University Hospitals and ICANS, represented at the event by its director Professor Xavier Pivot and Professor Carole Mathelin.
  • The creation of a content platform, in Ukrainian, to help share knowledge and know-how across the community of healthcare professionals in Ukraine.
